Description:
An embargo on Great Britain and France enacted to punish the two for violation of US neutrality during the Napoleonic Wars, such as British impressment. However, the embargo failed to affect the two countries significantly, and seriously harmed the US economy. It was eventually repealed on March 1, 1809.
