sep 27, 2018 - First Meeting with Ms. Starfish and union Rep Emailed Ms. Starfish asking for clarification on performance No response

Description:

Things to Make a Note of
I am the only Electrical Engineer who must go to weekly meetings with my boss
I must ask my boss for overtime approval during the week days when other engineers do not have to. I am the only one to my knowledge who has to do this. I was told previously by the Chief of Engineers I could work as much overtime as I wanted during the weekday, but the new boss says different.
I am not allowed to study for my PE exam at work. Even for a few hours despite the fact that there have been other engineers who studied all day for their exams.

Sent Boss the following email
Hi Natalie. I was wondering what will be the goal of our weekly meetings. Last week you mentioned that the weekly meetings would put me on a path to success. I was wondering what that entails. Am I underperforming in my job duties? If so can you elaborate on where I need to improve and what resources I can use to meet my performance standards.
My boss never replied to my email.

Had a meeting with my boss along with a union representative. My boss stated that she didn’t understand why I was having union representation because “we get along great”. However she also did say that union representation was always welcome. I asked for clarification on the purpose of the weekly meetings and why I was only engineer in my group who had to do these meetings. She said it was none of my business who had weekly or bi weekly meetings. When I asked the question I was only try to clarify why I was being singled out. I was told so that she can put me on a path to success. I asked her to clarify what that meant. She said to identify proper training classes such as a National Electric Code and help me to become a subject matter expert on my “systems.” I was never given any clarification on the problems with my comments on the VC rehab besides a few comments. She did, however; say we can go over that at a later time. It seems that vague language is always used whenever I am asking for clear answers regarding my performance. For example I was told when you get more comfortable with your systems you will start to use the word my and you will stop saying I believe. I find this very vague as my supervisor cannot point out flaws in my performance. I was also told in the meeting that one of my criteria I would be evaluated on was my COR level, which was not originally a part of my criteria. I said that I was prioritizing learning my systems first and then would move on to becoming a COR (Contracting Office Representative) after I had time to learn these different systems. I was told that I was not being responsible by doing this. I stated that there are only so many things I can work in a given time period and she reiterated it sounds like you’re not taking responsibility. I also stated that it seemed my time could be served better learning more about the facility rather than having weekly meetings since I need to become a subject matter expert on your systems. She replied well I can’t have you sitting reading books. I replied I was talking about walking through the different systems in the planet. She said that was dangerous to walk around the plant because I was a new guy. I do not see what is unsafe about walking the generator floor or the governor hall. I do not think my supervisor has a strong enough understanding of the facility to know what is safe or is unsafe. Overall I felt the meeting was very unproductive as she offered no advice to help me get on a “path to success”, which I assume is just being a subject matter expert on my systems and at this point I have asked several times, but only gotten comments that are very vague such as you used the word I believe, when you get more comfortable you will know.
