Description:
Sometime in December 1790, Samuel Slater ("the father of the American Industrial Revolution") opened his first textile mill, marking the beginning of the Market Revolution. He mainly employed young single women, as he could get away with paying them less. The women also benefitted by getting new work in the public sphere.
