Elizabeth I of England began her reign in 1558. Throughout her 45 year reign, Elizabeth I transformed England from weakest and poorest country to the strongest and wealthiest country in Europe. The largest reason that this was possible was that she instituted a policy of compromise between the Anglican and Catholic Churches, which promoted national pride over religious pride.
