Brett Ryan hired defense lawyer John Rosen, and judge John McMahon and he stated that Brett would be imprisoned for 2 life sentences and 10 years in prison for the murder and attempted murder of the four victims; Chris Ryan, A.J Ryan, and Sue Ryan. The only witness to this crime scene was their neighbor Warren. This crime fell under section 231(2) of the Canadian Criminal Code
