5 labor organizers for cotton mills were killed during an attempt at organizing racial issues. The Ku Klux Klan and various other racial groups were involved. Things turned violent when the KKK began shooting the organizers during an extremely violent rally. 16 KKK members were arrested and six were charged with murder while others had lesser charges.
