mar 22, 1765 - The Stamp Act
Description:
The Stamp Act was a tax placed on all paper products such as magazines and newspapers on March 22, 1765 to help the British play off debt. This tax stated that you had to pay for a stamp to be placed on all paper materials to prove it was bought with tax. If you owned paper materials without this stamp, you would be sent away for trial for theft. The colonists believed that the British had no right to tax thing made in the colonies. Some colonists even met in what is now known as New York to prepare for a unified protest (also known as The Stamp Act Congress).
