P. N. Harrison suggested that this letter, as we have it today, was in fact two letters. A short one from ch. 13-14, and a longer one from ch. 1-12, written around 135-137 AD.
This theory has been largely refuted now though, and the common date is put very close to the death of Ignatius with the acceptance that it is a single, unified letter.
