The pentagon signed a contract to create a new drone that would be much bigger, sturdier, aerodynamic, and silent. This is a fairly common drone. The main reason for this drone is to strike specific targets. It is a long-endurance, medium-altitude unmanned aircraft system for surveillance and reconnaissance missions. Surveillance imagery from synthetic aperture radar, video cameras and a forward-looking infrared (FLIR) can be distributed in real-time both to the front line soldier and to the operational commander, or worldwide in real-time via satellite communication links.
Benefits: Technology is proved to have been improving.
Costs: This drone and its later cousins are one the main drones to have caused bloodshed. This is another example of technology being put to the wrong use.
