The Spanish American War led to American victory and also led to the Treaty of Paris in which the treaty was in favour of the U.S. The U.S gained temporary control of Cuba and gained ownership of Puerto Rico, Guam, and the Philippine Islands. It is one of only five wars to have been formally declared by Congress.
