16h 5min, jan 1, 1890 y - Sherman Antitrust Act

Description:

The Sherman Antitrust Act allowed certain business activities that federal government regulators deem to be competitive, and recommended the federal government to investigate and pursue trusts. This act was meant to preserve a competitive marketplace to protect consumers from abuses. The Sherman Silver Purchase Act was passed because of complaining farmers and miners. The farmer and miners had debts that could not be paid off due to overproduction and deflation. So under the act the government started buying millions and millions of ounces of silver, becoming the second largest buyer in the world.
