Description:
On January 1st, 1863, President Abraham Lincoln wrote and gave a proclamtion that would effect the whole country. This was the Emancipation Proclamation, which freed enslaved people in areas fighting the Union. It had little effect in the begininng when it was first issued. It made the Civil War not just about saving the nation, but into a fight for freedom.
