in the early 60's they found a treatment that
could prolong the life of people who suffered
from thalassaemia. the first real treatment that
worked was to do monthly blood transfusions,
this helped by replacing all of the patients defe-
cted red blood cells with new ones. This gave
people another few years and most people with
thalassaemia lived to their teen years
