jan 1, 1946 - FOUND THE CAUSE they found what was causing the disease. they found that it was a genetic disorder, it is where the haemoglobin gene was abnormal - on the chromosome there are two genes that control haemoglobin 11 & 16 and usually the one that causes the most common form of thalassaemia was the 11th one.
