The Great Plague (1665-1666) was an epidemic that killed between 70,000 and 100,000 people in England, and more than a fifth of the population of London. The epidemic of 1665-1666 was similar to the previous "Black Death", a virulent outbreak of the disease in Europe between 1347 and 1353, and was remembered as the "Great Plague" because it was one of the last great outbreaks of European plague .
