Jiang Jeishi, then leader of Guomindang (GMD), due to the fear of public support towards Communism, violently suppressed the CCP using his military forces. Known as the April 12th incident, occurred part way through the National Revolutionary Army’s Northern Expedition, a military campaign to reunify China.
