Description:

"U.S. Constitution, Amendment XIII, Section 1: Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude, except as punishment for crime whereof the party shall have been duly convicted, shall exist within the United States, or any place subject to their jurisdiction.

Comments:

The original title was on the National Geographic timeline was "Slavery Abolished." I changed this to "Slavery Legally Abolished," to recognize that the type of devaluation of labour as seen in the history of chattel slavery still exists.
