nov 18, 1916 - The Somme Offensive ends
Description:
The Offensive ends as British and French troops halt their advance. At the cost of almost 700,000 troops, they managed to advance 6 miles over the course of the Offensive.
Whilst seen as a hard-fought victory during and immediately after the war, views notably changed around the 1930s; by the 1960s, the Offensive was viewed as a waste of human life that accomplished very little in regards to the cost of the soldiers' lives that were lost.
