apr 13, 1896 - Plessy vs. Ferguson 1896
Description:
Plessy filed a lawsuit because he wanted to sit in first class, but that car was for white people, and he was moved to the black care despite him paying for a first class seat and despite the fact that he identified as white. He also argued that the separation of races makes African Americans feel inferior. The court rules that separate but equal facilities were constitutional because if people felt inferior then that was their choice.
