apr 20, 1853 - Unsettled land used by everyone for grazing starting in 1868

Description:

Until recent years the range in the Valley north of Cotton Creek was grazed mainly by sheep while from Cotton Creek south to the Baca Grant it was grazed by cattle. The only range trouble between cattlemen and sheepmen that I recall was some time between 1876 and 1879, when the sheep began encroaching on our range and the cattlemen got together and drove the off at night. No one was injured. The sheep staid (sic) off the range after that and there was no more trouble.
