jun 3, 1915 - Saguache Town Hall Built 1915

Description:

Built in 1915, the Saguache Town Hall was one of the first commissions for architect Harry W.J. Edbrooke, a member of a dynasty of Denver architects responsible for the design of the Tabor Opera House and the Tabor Block in Denver. Edbrooke's original blueprints for the building—consisting of only two pages—are still kept in the walk-in safe.
A single-story firehouse addition was constructed on the north end of the building in 1916. The firehouse's hipped roof is topped by a wood-framed bell tower, which sat on the roof of the previous town hall. The bell is still in the tower, although the tower itself is now surmounted by a siren.

The building was originally designed as a meeting hall for town trustees, a jail, and as a repository for town records. In the 1960s Saguache installed a municipal water and sewer system, which meant it needed a location for people to come and pay their bills, as well as a staff to administer town activities and business. The town eventually reopened the building as the offices of the town clerk.

A recent History Colorado State Historical Fund grant provided $66,224 in funding to help fund repairs to the roof, fascia, soffits, gutters, downspouts, and masonry, as well as to fund improvements to access for persons with disabilities. https://www.facebook.com/SaguacheMuseum/
