Operation Barbarossa was Hitler's plan to invade and overthrow the Soviets. The plan started in the summer of 1941, but as the German troops went further into Russia, the seasons changed and the brutal Russian winter began. Unprepared for such frigid conditions, many soldiers died from cold, and the dwindling numbers resulted in a grim outcome for the Germans in Stalingrad.
