jun 25, 1529 - Augsburg Confession
Description:
Luther tried to calm the chaos of the Reformation in 1530 by helping create the Augsburg Confession, which summarized his beliefs—especially that people are saved by faith alone, not by doing religious works.
He supported this with Paul’s writings, rejecting the Church’s demands for penance.
But this clashed with the Book of James, which says “faith without works is dead.”
Luther disagreed so strongly that he questioned whether James belonged in the Bible, insisting that salvation comes through faith, not works.
