Description:

While a horrifying act of political mass terror which resulted in the deaths of 1-2 million people, it does not fall under the definition of genocide, as there was no genocidal intent on the part of the CPC against its population. Rather its aims and actions were against political opponents and unlike the purges by the NKVD or Indonesian purges it did not target or isolate specific ethnicities as political opponents.
