Description:
Prior to Monroe Inauguration, the Unites states had just ended the War of 1812, which increased national pride and showed the country could defend itself against European power. The Federalist Party had declined after the Hartford Convention, and the economy was slowly recovering from the trade stopped by the war and the Embargo Act. These events lead to the Era of Good Feeling, showing the political shift from one party and conflicts from other countries. While the U.S was stabilization, leaders such as james Monroe capitalized the expansion of American manufacturing and westward expansion. Also the tensions over slavery and territorial disputes began emerging. During Monroe Presidency, the inauguration in 1817 resulted in the Rush-Bagot Treaty, which reduced tension with Britain, and the Missouri Compromise which temporarily help the disputes over slavery.
