dec 3, 1994 - Sony Enters the Market
Description:
Sony, an already well-established technology company, entered the video game console market with the release of the PlayStation. This was one of the first consoles to make use of CD-ROMs instead of cartridges; CD-ROMs were cheaper to manufacture, and allowed for more relatively advanced graphics and audio.
Sony was also remarkably more friendly to third-party and hobbyist developers compared to market giants Nintendo and Sega.
Sony's proprietory development kits were much cheaper and easier to access than those of their comptetitors.
