Although widespread interest in the computers as an instructional tool did not occur until the 1980s, computers were first used şn education and training at a much earlier date. Much of the early work in computer-assisted instruction (CAI) was done in the 1950s by researchers at IBM, who developed the first CAI author language and designed one of the first CAI programs to be used in the public schools.
