Gilded Age (2 jul 1877 año – 1 ene 1914 año)
Descripción:
A name for the period of the late 1800s, coined by Mark Twain, who described this period as glittering on the surface, but corrupt underneath. It is known for the tremendous increase in wealth caused by the industrial age, the lavish lifestyles it allowed the very rich, and extravagant displays of wealth. The great industrial success of the U.S. and the fabulous lifestyles of the wealthy hid the many social problems of the time, including a high poverty rate, a high crime rate, and corruption in the government. The Gilded Age was significant as these years saw Americans struggling to come to terms with the size, wealth, political needs, and new labor relations of their changing nation.
