Nullification Crisis (19 mayo 1828 año – 15 mar 1833 año)
Descripción:
A high protective tariff (or tax) was signed into law by the U.S government. South Carolinians- specifically John C. Calhoun strongly disagreed with the high tariffs an felt that they targeted the South unfairly. South Carolina nullified the federal law calling it unconstitutional until a "force bill" was threatened which would bring the national army into the state ti make sure the law was followed. A compromise took place. South Carolina would pay the tax if the U.S government lowered the tax. The U.S Government would not send troops if South Carolina agreed to pay this lower tax.
