Abraham Lincoln was the 16th president of The United States, who won the election of 1861 against John C. Breckinridge with almost no votes from the south. Lincoln was a republican who lead America through the civil war, fought against slavery, signed the Homestead Act that allowed poor people to own land and established the United States Department of Agriculture and US National Banking System.
