Son of Oliver Cromwell and Elizabeth Bourchier.
Married Dorothy Maijor in May 1649 and had nine children.
Richard inherited the title from his father, despite being an incompetent ruler of the army and the country. He was forcibly removed from by the English Committee of Safety under the leadership of Charles Fleetwood.
