1868, St. Louis, Missouri- Superintendent William Torrey Harris implements the first systematic instruction of gifted students.
1905- French Researcher Alfred Binet worked on capturing intelligence in a numeric form which lead to the creation of the Bell Curve.
1916- Lewis Terman brought Binet's test to the United States
1917 The Army uses intelligence testing with its recruits developing an Alpha and Beta unit.
1954 National Association for Gifted Children is created.
After WWII, Harry Truman creates the National Science Foundation to support research in education of Math and Science.
1957 The launch of Sputnik further invigorates the push for the instruction of math and science enrichment.
1964 Opens opportunities for equal education for all students.
1975 President Ford signed the American's with Disabilities Act, extending educational opportunities to children with special needs.
1988 Jacob Javits Gifted and Talented Students Education Act is passed in recognition that underrepresented students were not receiving the appropriate services.
