Over 50,000 residents of the Philippine Islands fled as one of the most active volcanoes threatened to erupt. Scientists working on the matter detected 83 volcanic quakes, a majority of which caused major rockfalls. The Philippines are situated on what is called the “Ring of Fire” which is an arc of fault lines nears the Pacific Basin. Because of this, the Philippines have frequent earthquakes and volcanic eruptions.
