The Treaty of Paris officially declared America independent from Britain. It was a historic moment because after so long America finally received what they wanted after 8 long years of fighting. The treaty was signed by King George III to represent Britain and the Continental Congress. The Continental Congress was actually a party of 5 but Jefferson had some delays because of travel and John Laurens was taken by British troops and was held hostage in the Tower of London. It was negotiated that loyalists were not to be persecuted, Britain would remove all British troops from America and America would be its own free nation.
