On December 7, 1993 the Japanese launched a surprise attack on Pearl Harbor which killed many Americans and severely damaged 19 ships. By doing this, the hoped to discourage Americans to keep them out of the war. However, this only added fuel to the fire because a day later, Congress declared war on Japan.
