1 sept 1939 año - Germany Invades Poland

Descripción:

In January of 1934, Hitler had signed a non-aggression pact with Poland because he wanted to stop France and Poland from forming an alliance against Germany before he could rearm the German military. In August of 1939, Hitler signed the German-Soviet Pact, allowing Germany to attack without Soviet intervention. The Poles fought back as much and as long as they could, but the German air force and use of blitzkrieg warfare were too much to handle. The Battle of Poland ended around winter of 1939, Germany taking 700,000 prisoners, killing 70,000 Polish soldiers, and wounding more than 130,000. Germany, on the other hand, only had 45,000 casualties. Both the Soviet Union and Germany took half of Poland and control of Lithuania was given to the Soviets. This invasion was the official beginning of World War II, being the "last straw" for Britain and France and they officially declared war.
