Multitrack recording is a method of sound recording developed in 1955 that allows for the separate recording of multiple sound sources recorded at different times to create a whole recording. Multitrack recording was seen as a significant improvement in sound recording process. This is because it allowed studio engineers to record all instruments and vocals for a piece of music separately. Before the development of multitrack recording, all singers and instrumentalists had to sing and play together, whereas with multitrack recording, it can be done separately.
