4 abr 1887 año - The Three-Fifths Compromise

Descripción:

The Three-Fifths compromise was a debate about the counting of slaves for population representation and tax purposes throughout the south. The debate reached state delegates at the Constitutional Convention and would greatly impact the number of seats each state would be given in the US House of Representatives. With the count of slaves the south would have a third more electoral votes and a third more seats in Congress then without slaves counted. But however when it came to taxes many slaveholders didn’t want to pay taxes for the slaves they own. In the end an agreement was made to count slaves as ⅗ of a person, hence the ⅗ compromise.
