Near Appomattox Courthouse, Virginia General Robert Lee and his Confederate soldiers surrendered to Union troops led by Ulysses S. Grant after they left Richmond (Confederate capital) and the City of Petersburg. After this abonnement The Confederates goal was to meet reinforcements in North Carolina after rallying the rest of his troops and resume fighting. However the battle of Appomattox brought the four year Civil War to a quick end after the Union demolished Confederate troops, the Union had won the war.
