Fort Sumter was located off of Charleston Harbor in South Carolina and after South Carolina seceded from the Union, The Union still maintained control of the Fort. The Confederate troops attack The Fort on April 12th 1861 after Lincoln had plans to resupply the Fort. The Confederate and Confederate General P.G.T. Beauregard gained control of the Fort after 34 hours of artillery fire and maintain control of the fort for 4 years following. Although the Union forces had many failed attempts to regain control of the Fort but it wasn’t until after the Civil War the Fort was established by the US military and used in following Wars that the US engaged in.
