The Chinese Exclusion Act was the first law banning immigration into the United States. The US claimed the Chinese caused decline in wages and illness and the workers on the East coast were serious affected by the Chinese. However the Chinese made up 0.002 percent of the US population, the congress still passed an exclusion act banning Chinese immigrants from enter the US. This act was intended to last 10 years, but was made permanent in 1902.
