The Rights of Man is a book written by Thomas Paine on March 3rd, 1791. In this book, Paine discusses the idea that if the government doesn’t listen to those being governed, a revolution can and should occur. He believes that the government has no place interfering with the natural rights of the people. Therefore, Thomas Paine was a very strong supporter of the French Revolution. The book was wildly popular; selling around 1 million copies to reformers and Protestant dissenters. It contains 31 articles, and in its entirety, was around 90,000 words. It was important because it convinced people as to why the French Revolution was a good idea, and led many people to support it in order to protect themselves.
