Up to 1901 different states in Australia were in different colonies. On the 1st of January 1901, the British Government passed a legislation allowing all of these colonies to become under one federal government and have a right of the Commonwealth of Australia. The White Australia Policy is a policy that made it very difficult for a person who came from another country other than britain, to enter Australia. The people who wanted to immigrate to Australian had to take a test in a language they didn’t know. The reason why Australia had the white Australia policy is because they wanted more people who spoke the same language and looked the same. The White Australia ended in 1973.
