On Thursday I was driven to school in a 2018 Honda Accord. The company that manufactured this car is Honda, a Japanese Multinational Corporation that produces automobiles. The factors of globalization that this event concerns are politics, economy, and the environment. The 2018 version of the Honda Accord is produced in various countries, which include the US, China, and Thailand, with the majority of plants located in China. This is an example of globalization of production, as it involves the outsourcing of services around the world to take advantage of lower costs of the factors of production in other countries, particularly those that are less developed.
The environment is an important factor in this event, as in order to create Hondas in less developed countries, those countries need to become industrialized, resulting in mass amounts of pollution due to carbon dioxide emissions from factories. China, in particular, is globally known for its carbon emissions that have become so prevalent in the air that they have created a grey smog in the place of fresh air.
The factor of economy is prevalent in this event as the production of the Honda Accord involved borderless finance through investments made in other countries buy Honda, investments were made in factories but also people to work in the factories. That being said, Honda is still based in Japan, a relatively rich country, so poor countries such as China are not benefitting as much from the trade given that much of the money made by Honda is going to their home base of Japan to be spent by higher-paid employees, not labour workers in China.
One of the reasons that my father was able to purchase a Honda Accord was due to politics and trade agreements that allowed for Hondas to be exported to Canada. For instance the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership, a free trade agreement between Canada, Japan and nine other countries that promotes the free trade of goods through reduced tariffs and quotas, this includes automobiles.
