Descripción:

On Friday I shopped online for clothes. Shopping online is part in parcel to globalization as it particularly relates to economics and politics, two of the four factors of globalization. Online shopping relates to the economic aspect of globalization through the concept of borderless finance. I had been ordering clothes from Asos, a Multinational Enterprise based in the UK, which is where the majority of the brand’s goods are shipped from. The clothes that I bought were being shipped from London, UK to my home in London Ontario. Through an online transaction, I was able to purchase clothes from another country. In addition, since Asos is based in the UK, the prices on their official website were in pounds, however, the merging of currencies (a political result of globalization) allowed for my Canadian currency to be exchanged without the involvement of a bank. Also, trade agreements such as CETA, a free trade agreement between Canada and the EU(currently including the UK), make it easier(and cheaper) to import and export goods from the UK. However shopping in itself can be related to the cultural factor of globalization, especially given that I chose to shop through a retailer that promotes fast fashion. Fast fashion is the concept of cheap clothing produced in masses by large retail companies in order to capitalize off of the latest trends. Fast fashion promotes consumerism, a consequence of globalization.
