Descripción:
In order to make slave states and free states somewhat balanced in power, Congress between slave and free states, the Missouri Compromise was passed in 1820 admitting Missouri as a slave state and Maine as a free state. This was significant to the development of sectionalism because many felt that it made the North more aggressive in its anti-slavery views and contributed to southern resentment, which may have led to the Civil War occurring sooner than it should have.
