In the summer of 1793, the conditions in Philadelphia caused a huge outbreak of yellow fever which killed 100 people a day
Symptoms:
Phase 1
-3 to 4 days of incubation
-Fever
- Headaches
- Vomiting
- Loss of appetite
Phase 2
-Toxic phase
- Fever
- Bleeding
- Vomiting blood
- Loss of kidney function • Abdominal pain
- Jaundice
Treatment:
-No cure
-mostly just supportive care
History:
-1882 panama canal yellow fever killed 176 for every 1000 french workers
-1898 Spanish/American war killed 3000 people and 2600 were from infections
