colonist adopt the Declaration of Independence. Thomas jefferson copied John Locke's ideas and only changed " life liberty and property" to life, liberty, and pursuit of happiness" but the rest were all John Locke's words. Thomas Jefferson is the principal author of the Declaration of Independence.
