A woman's duty during the 17th -18th centuries was housekeeping and making children. Puritan values heavily influenced society, and that marriage was unrelated to emotion.
Philosopher Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz does oppose this argument. He explains that love is the pleasure for another’s happiness, and it is the combination of happinesses of two people. He also explains that love is not an action but a feeling, and when wisdom and love join, it creates justice.
