Descripción:

Jean Piaget, often spoken of in conjunction with Lev Vygotsky was also an Educational Psychologist and again focused on the learning and cognitive development of children. Piaget began his research on the cognitive development of children with the birth of his own children in the 1920’s. He theorized that children develop cognitively as they mature and through interaction with their environment. Nearly forty years later and based on decades of research, in 1972 Piaget published the concept of the Four Stages of Cognitive Development including: sensorimotor, preoperational, concrete operational, and formal operational. He suggested that thinking as it relates to learning happens in these four stages of cognitive development up through the age of 12, though not all people will move into the formal operational thinking phase. This publication landed in a decade of real growth and acceptance of Instructional Systems Design within Academia and the Military.
